Wrexham Sounds
November 2024
Wrexham Sounds is a non-profit organisation which works with disadvantaged children, transforming young lives through music. They provide a wide range of music lessons and activities to young people and children who are unable to access them at school and adults who want to support their cause. They run courses and workshops tailored to children and young people facing health, educational and social challenges, utilising trained musical therapists, the youngest child being aged 2.
Wrexham Sounds has been based in Rhosrobin since 2021, when they re-branded, taking on trained music therapists. Last year, they provided 68 workshops to 305 children, 14 community events, fundraisers, a musical sponsored walk in Alyn Waters and engaged with 31 local schools.
There are 3 volunteer directors, 12 freelance musicians, and trained musical therapists. Many of the children are homeschooled, registered blind, deaf, autistic or are young carers. The organisation provides a variety of services- music for wellbeing, where there were 43 children in 2023/24 referred by 36 agencies, with trained music therapists, music lessons in 2023/24, 1128 music lessons to 176 children, and courses and workshops, to schools, charities and community groups, tailored to the needs of children and young people.
During the school holidays they deliver various musical activities and programmes. On Saturdays they deliver a Creative Club encompassing music, craft and movement for children with additional learning needs.
There have been autistic and non-verbal children who have made their first sounds at sessions, many of the wellbeing sessions are about making music with a range of different instruments and games, as well as writing songs.
Music lessons are available to anyone between the hours of 3pm-7pm, both children and adults, and the income generated from these lessons goes to fund the music for wellbeing, supporting disadvantaged families.
‘Schools, parents and others who choose Wrexham Sounds for music lessons, don’t just get a great learning experience; they are also subsidising their mission to transform young lives through music.’
What an amazing organisation!
