Repair Café Wrecsam

March 2025

Repair Café Wrecsam

The Repair Café started two and a half years ago in June 2022. It started at the Yab Hub in Henblas Street, as Pete Humphreys was the only person to say yes, and has now moved to the Caia Park Partnership, where they also have use of the Café for teas, coffees and cakes.

The inspiration behind the Repair Café was to help climate change by doing something tangible that had a result, encouraging people to repair and re-use.

There are over one hundred repair cafes across Wales which:
1.Reduce landfill
2.Create a sense of community by gathering volunteers together
3.Facilitate the sharing of skills of the volunteers and passing those skills onto other people.

The volunteers repair anything, and you can sit with them and chat about what they are doing, while the item is repaired there and then. If the item needs a part, the customer can go and buy the part needed, and come back within two hours or even the following month.

Fifty percent of items repaired are electrical: toasters, kettles, lights, lamps, laptops, computers, TV’s. However, they also repair: Bicycles, bags, zips, clothes, bookcases, shoes, leaf blowers.

There are about 15-20 repairers, with 7-15 at each session.

Well done to all the volunteers!
