Our latest winner of the F Jones Initiative 2023/24 Wrexham Recognition Awards is Rick Bedson, Chair of Trustees at Advance Brighter Futures.
Rick became involved with Advance Brighter Futures in 2018, after a friend and colleague of 17 years, Tony Richards, sadly took his own life.
In Rick’s words “Tony’s action was completely out of the blue and without warning. It had a major impact on myself and the team. We decided to undertake fundraising in Tony’s name and donate it to a mental health charity. While selecting a charity we became aware of Advance Brighter Futures, a small local charity supporting those with mental health concerns. It was agreed by the team that we would donate to ABF and work with the charity in the future in Tony’s memory”.
Rick has continued to get more involved with the charity and became a trustee in January 2020.
As their Chair, Rick leads the way in giving ‘a helping hand for people’s mental wellbeing’.
His volunteer work for ABF has been invaluable, overseeing building extensions, renovations, rallying volunteers, spending weeks of his own time painting, taking part in meetings and is always seen rattling a bucket at bucket collections with the team.
