Kerry Evans

April Award

Kerry has worked for Wrexham AFC as the Disability Liaison for over 6 years and did so on a voluntary basis until March 2021, when she became a fulltime member of staff.
Whilst volunteering, Kerry originally raised all the funds needed to make accessible away travel to games possible, enabling a minibus to take 4 wheelchair users and 4 companions to watch away games. To raise the funds for this, Kerry sold Wrexham red blankets with the club logo on (650+) and organised quiz games and many other events to raise the money needed, ensuring wheelchair users could travel to away games. This has been an amazing achievement, well done Kerry. From the start of this season, this is now supplied by Wrexham AFC.
Kerry also organises the important quiet zone at Wrexham AFC home games, along with the allocation of the seats there. The quiet zone is a vital space, that enables fans who are diagnosed with autism, sensory issues, ADHD, and anxiety to come and watch a game. Parents and siblings can accompany under 18’s and people with sensory issues can have seats with space around them.
Kerry has also raised money by fundraising and donations to provide items that are available to hire in this space, such as ear defenders, blankets, weighted blankets (which comfort people with autism), stress balls, fidget spinners, and a weighted teddy for cuddles, which was so popular, they now have two! Kerry informed us that there would be a working budget from the club, for such items, from September 2023. There is also a sensory hub at the back of the quiet zone, which has sensory lighting and is a completely quiet space.

An accessible platform at the club for away fans, also provides 12 spaces for people using wheelchairs, sticks or walking frames. On match days, Kerry has always made sure she welcomes the away fans to this space, and they often contact her, thanking her for taking the time to welcome them.
Kerry tells us she is lucky to do the job she loves, which is why she did it voluntarily for many years and feels that she is the voice for fans with disabilities.
Well done, Kerry, fantastic work!
