Enid Waterfall

May Award

We are delighted to announce the first monthly winner this month of @fjonesinitiaitive 2023/24 Wrexham Recognition Awards Is Enid Waterfall.

Enid is 87 years old and has raised so much money fundraising, raising over £80,000, over 10 years, that she has been awarded with a BEM (British Empire medal) because of her tremendous fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The reason Enid raises money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, touched our hearts.

Enid’s grandson Richard was a normal 21 years old, in his final year at university in Edinburgh, when he was devastatingly diagnosed with a rare bone cancer. During the following five years, Richard endured four operations, 25 rounds of chemotherapy, 12 weeks of continuous radiotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Teenage Cancer Trust were there to support Richard from the first moment of his diagnosis and specialist nurses and amazing facilities were provided by the trust over the next 5+ years, making treatment bearable and helping Richard and his family to cope.

Despite all the treatment, Richard gained his degree, went on to gain a Masters and as a keen Newcastle United fan, crawled up the steps to his seat, four days before going into hospice care. Very sadly, Richard died four days later.

Enid has told us “it doesn’t matter how much money we raise, we can never repay them for the five extra years they gave us with Richard”.

The family take on numerous fundraising events and Enid is constantly fundraising through bucket collections, raffles, quizzes, bonfire parties and only this month she was fundraising at Wrexham Hospital with a Trash and Treasure stall.

Enid recently attended the Queen’s Garden Party and the Coronation Concert in London, invited in recognition of all her mammoth fundraising achievements.

“Anywhere, anyone says I can stand with a bucket, I do”, says Enid.

How could we not recognise this remarkable lady’s achievements?

Well done, Enid you truly are an inspiration to us all!
