Aaron Aby
We have great pleasure in recognising Aaron Aby, for his charity work raising awareness for Cystic Fibrosis and making a difference to the local community with his Inspire Performance Gym in Gwersyllt and the positive message he sends out to other young CF sufferers.
Aaron Aby is a 32 years old Welsh fighter, who has defied Cystic Fibrosis and survived cancer.
Although Aaron was born with Cystic Fibrosis his parents instilled in him the belief that he could achieve anything, whilst growing up.
This condition often leaves people with a reduced lung capacity and they are frequently discouraged from taking part in sporting activities.
His parents were determined to ensure Aaron wasn’t defined by his condition. During his teenage years Aaron was recognised as one of Welsh footballs most promising talents and picked up by Shrewsbury Town. He represented Wales, mixing with Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsay and Joe Allen.
It was a blow to him when Shrewsbury released him at the age of 16, he feels due to the risks associated with his condition.
Aaron re-focussed and started mixed martial arts training (MMA) where as an individual sport he was more in charge of his own destiny. Whilst working towards the Cage Warriors title Aaron uses the slogan
“Fighting to breathe”
Not only raising awareness for CF but giving hope to others with the same condition. He regularly gives talks in schools spreading awareness and speaks to parents about the importance of not putting limits on their children.
Four years ago, Aaron was given a terminal cancer diagnosis, and after a major operation and 8 rounds of chemotherapy he survived and has recently won his third fight!
As well as all the hard work Aaron does, raising awareness for CF, Aaron also helps run the Inspire Performance Centre in Gwersyllt, a gym that provides sport and fitness instruction including strength and conditioning, personal training, mixed martial arts, Olympic lifting, nutrition advice, elite coaching, indoor football and 5 a side footy.
We hope Aaron’s story will inspire other kids with CF to try everything and not let their lives be defined by their condition.
Well done Aaron!
