Macy Williams

Throughout her secondary school years 16 years old Macy experienced many forms of bullying, physical, mental and verbal. The bullying started when she was only 10 years old and continued through the whole of secondary school life.

It caused Macy to suffer with depression, she withdrew and developed an eating disorder. She struggled to express herself and became very quiet and withdrawn in school.

Macy has only recently been diagnosed with an eyesight condition, all her life she has struggled to read and write. The nature of her condition makes words move around when she is reading and writing. Macy thinks that because she was different in school to other pupils, because of her learning difficulties, that’s why she was bullied.

Macy is also a young carer, helping her mum Terri with her autoimmune disease, has looked after her siblings when her mum has been in hospital.

Despite all of these issues, Macy never missed a day of school and managed to pass all her exams, despite her exam work being taken from her bag by the bullies.

At the start of lockdown Macy decided to try and help others that are going through similar experiences to her own. She set up a Facebook page designed to help others ChangebyM_W. Macy has explained the reason behind this was when she was bullied, she had no one her own age to talk to who could relate to what she was going through. She thought “what if I set up a little page that would help just one person feel more accepted and appreciated and I could give advice on how to deal with any situation and I could share positive stuff”.
Since setting up the Facebook, Macy has seen major improvements in her own health, and has turned a corner. She works on her Facebook page every day, despite her own eyesight issues, sometimes late into the evening.

Macy is now studying at Colegcambria, studying a mixture of courses and although much better, the relentless bullying has taken its toll and she still finds it difficult to talk to someone she doesn’t know well. However, Macy is brilliantly supported by the college, who have provided her with specialist speech cards in class. She has new friends and loves her new college, she loves walking the boxer dogs Luna and Ruby and comes home every day with a smile on her face.

Macy continues to be a remarkable young lady, intent on helping and giving back to the community, she recently she left 6 little bouquets of flowers in places around Wrexham, as she thought it would make whoever found them incredibly happy. She has also made a whopping 16 lovely positivity letters with a little token included, for people in Maesydre, Rhosddu and the town centre to pick up and smile.

We think Macy is an inspirational young lady, her Facebook page is amazing, the quotes shared there are inspiring and will hopefully prompt others in a similar position to reach out to someone. We also hope that winning this ward, will give Macy extra confidence moving forward with her life.
