Wrexham AFC DSA

August 2024 Award

The latest organisation to receive a shout out from the F Jones Initiative, 2024-2025 Wrexham Recognition Awards is The Wrexham Disabled Supporters Association (DSA), in particular the volunteers who help park disabled supporters’ vehicles.

“The DSA is a long-standing independent supporters association, running for over a decade and was founded by fans to ensure that anyone with disabilities can get to attend a match.
Over the years we made it possible for members to attend matches at Wembley by taking multiple wheelchair users by minibus, we created a disability football team (now an independent body called Wrexham Inclusion), we created the  UK’s very first Autism friendly football match in October 2013, which made sure our autistic fans had a safe and friendly space in which to enjoy watching Wrexham, this included a walk about of the part of the stadium they were going to be sat in a couple of days before the actual match so supporters could familiarise themselves with their area.
We are very proud to have help fund the building of the wheelchair platform in the Mold Road Stand which was opened by Lord Faulkner.
More recently we’ve been able to provide Audio Descriptive Commentary at all home games, this ensures that any fans with a visual impairment can enjoy the match via an enhanced commentary.
We’ve recently purchased a defibrillator that is on the outside of the Mold Road Stand that is available not only for match day use but also everyday usage, although that is one thing that we would be quite happy if nobody ever has to use it!

Finally, as you say, we also provide match day parking in the Wrexham University car park, ensuring that up to 60-70 cars are catered for, in what is an incredibly challenging environment, but one we all thoroughly enjoy volunteering for.”
