Cora Bishop

July 2024 Award

The latest monthly winner of a Wrexham Recognition Award this month, is the fantastic Cora Bishop.

Cora is an Army Cadet at Hightown Barracks. She has Downs Syndrome and has been nominated for always having a massive smile on her face and the way she makes amazing friends.

Her parents tell us that ‘witnessing the transformative journey of my daughter, who has Downs Syndrome, through her participation in the Army Cadets program in Wrexham, has been nothing short of remarkable. This experience has not only enriched her life, but has opened doors to personal growth, empowerment, and a sense of belonging that I believe every child deserves’.

Cora’s confidence and self-esteem has grown, and she has challenged herself to take on responsibilities and step outside her comfort zone. She has gained a sense of self-sufficiency that transcends her disability. This newfound independence has not only empowered her but has also provided her with essential life skills, that will serve her well in the future. Her presence has been a benefit to the other cadets, as many would not have had the chance to interact and support someone with Downs Syndrome previously.

Cora has found a sense of purpose and belonging being a cadet, it has empowered her to overcome challenges, build self confidence and embrace her unique abilities.Although she will always have challenges, Cora is no longer defined by her disability but her limitless potential!Well done Cora, keep smiling!
